2010 Teachers of Excellence Announced!
Teachers of Excellence
In the last year your DTA volunteer board and members have:
- Solicited support from central office and has now included the Superintendent, Curriculum Director, Human Resources Director, and Special Education Director in the beginning of our monthly board meetings
- Interviewed board members and candidates running for school board seats in the spring election
- Negotiated a 1.25% raise when it looked like there would be no raise (or worse, pay cuts and loss of jobs)
- Coordinated with our regional and state KNEA representatives to support the needs of our professional members at the local and state level
- Established a system of communication based upon mutual respect for the profession of educating children with our district leaders
Keep track of events in Topeka by subscribing to the KNEA’s electronic newsletter that reports regularly from the Kansas state legislature and provides in-depth analysis on pending legislation that affects our schools. To view the most recent issue of Under the Dome or to learn more about how you can support the KNEA’s lobby effort, visit At the Capitol on the KNEA website.
Begin by contacting your building representative for advice. For building issues, your building representative may recommend you speak directly with the principal and will be available to accompany you to that meeting. Your building representative may refer other issues to the DTA Executive Board, meet with administrators on your behalf, or consult KNEA for further action.
